Sorry if I've set a hare running but it's just something at the back of my mind. Let's put it another way? If there are/were alternative chains, chances are the Exports would've got the higher spec one (as with most everything else) There's certainly no 242 suffix (other than J) so somebody'd have to decipher the part #
& then I found this (from Novak):- "The #HV061 transfer case chain for the NP242ECE, Jeep (European) XJ & ZJ, features an 0.5033" pitch rocker joint x 1" wide x 72 links. This chain is, unfortunately, no longer available"

If you scroll down and read, Novak states the chain for the 242 is no longer available. If replacing is absolutely necessary, your best bet would be a low milage junkyard case, that you can bastardize a chain from.
If your tc is operating normally, the hack n tap is the way to go, plus it's a lot cheaper. Plenty of videos and walk through posts on the interwebz for that. Good luck friend. Let us know how it's going, we like it when people follow up!

That's only the European spec. chain, like I originally suggested (see the edit to my post #17) - not that that's any consolation to OP, except I didn't think he actually needs one and I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't available elsewhere.

We've never seen a setup like that used on our platform before...not saying it can't be done, but based on the fact that cherokees are 30+ years old, and have been being modified for nearly as long, we should have at least seen it before.
I'm only going to advise you that while it may be possible, if it were me, I would want to use what's known proven to work, successfully, for years. You can try using the setup pictured, but you'll be in it by yourself, there won't be many that can help diagnose issues because nobody has done it. It may work great, it may not...it's your call if you want to take the risk and experiment with it...and hey, you never know, maybe it will work great, and you found a new process, but maybe not...it's your call on whether you're willing to risk damaging your driveline or not.
Not going to lie, it would be cool to see something new and different...so if you end up trying it out, please document it thoroughly and share it here. Good luck sir.

Even though he states it will work with all those models, it won't. Sellers put in all models and types to drive clicks on their auctions. He might sell multiple different shafts, but uses one description and photo on a template to streamline posting his items. Ebay, amazon, etsy, etc, do this all the time. Be wary when buying items on these sites. Contact the seller and make sure before you click to buy.
FWIW, I used to buy and sell and ebay a lot. I stopped because of shady dealings on both ends, people there will always find a way to rip you off. Not everyone, but a lot. Do your due diligence before purchasing.

you're scaring me... the seller's feedback seems good to me, he asked me for some measurements and after the purchase he proceeds with the creation of the custom-made driveshaft. I would like your opinion though
