iron rock hack and tap sye
i installed this kit, had a hell of the time the first time the second time was a breeze, you have to, HAVE TO, cut the shaft before you try drilling. its hardest on the outside because they harden the splines on the shaft, you can easily do it with the case in and removing the front driveshaft and cutting it while the jeep is running in gear makes your cut nice and even, you can buy the bits from iron rock but your better off going and getting two nice titanium bits from the hardware store, i would order the bits becasue it comes with the right tap. it seems like a big job but its pretty simple once you get into it
your going to want to cut shorter as free said, like i said the shaft is hardest on the outsides, you can sit there all day and try to drill into the end of the shaft without cutting it and you wont even scratch it.

does it come with the specs for the cutting and i also have a t case drop should i take it off to ill be runnin 8 inches of lift total when im done and probly have 6 degree shims
yea youll have to measure from your rear axle yolk to the end of the output shaft on the T case and they give you a measurement, but seeing as your running 8 inches you might want to move that cut farther to the end of the shaft so you have enough driveshaft, online they say that you can only run up to 6.5 inches of lift with a hack and tap however i called iron rock and the guy told me he runs that hack and tap on his cherokee with 11 inches of custom lift and it works fine. so im sure you will be ok. also make sure you pick up plenty of cutting disks because i went through 4 before i got the shaft cut all the way through. just a heads up
also you should be able to take the T case drop out, thats the whole point of doing the SYE, in the instructions it will tell you to take the drop out before you do any measuring and cutting because obviously the measurements will be off, so you have to remove the drop before you do anything else.
I also forgot to mention that I drilled the center of the shaft in 4 steps instead of the 2 Recommended in the instructions. Invest in a good set of drill bits, because cheap bits cause TONS of frustration (been there, done that). If you have a hardened output shaft (NP242, I think), then you may have to heat the tip of the shaft with a torch to remove the heat treat so you can drill it much easier.

true, i think all the shafts will be hardened cause i had the 231 and it was hardened. i ordered the drill bit and tap kit from IRO and i only used that to make sure i got the right drill bits from the local hardware store, i bought titanium bits and they worked great, not cheap but worth it in the end
