Just installed it last week. Cakewalk. Just make sure that the yoke seats completely against the end of the output shaft. Mine had an interference with the shaft sealing surface. Shortened the yoke and was good to go.

I will be doing mine tomorrow unless it doesn't show up today. My brother in law has done one and I guess it's not to big of a deal. Just measure twice, cut once and keep the driveshaft spinning when you hack it.

it can stay in. what some people do to get a nice clean cut, is deconnect the front driveshaft (after putting stops on the wheels) and let it idle in D (or R) that way it is a straight cut... and also when you are drilling it.

The reverse trick works well. Make sure you have a good wheel on your grinder. Also be sure to take your time with the tap and don't get in a hurry with everything. I got my kit with all the drills and tap too, which may be a little more on the front end but it just made the install go that much easier. I didn't have to go to the hardware store and track down what I needed.

I left the case installed. Once I measured (three times-cause I have crappy luck), I used a hose clamp as a guide to make sure the cut was fairly straight. Used the hole in the new yoke with a center punch to mark the center of the shaft. Just use lots of oil when drilling and tapping the hole. If you have ever broken a tap, you know what I mean.

Here is my install. I had a hell of a time with it. So I finally split the case and took out the output shaft and had a machine shop do it for $60.00 bucks.

Here are some photos of the hack N slap slip yoke eliminator install. When they say the output shaft is harden steel they are not joking. i finally split my transfer case and took the output shaft to a machine shop.

the begin split,

behind this plate is the oil pump tube. very important when you reistall.

all the bolts are a 15 mm except for this one. this is a 10mm 12 point socket. remember where the 2 bolts with washers are. that is your split points. DO NOT TRY TO SPLIT ANYWHERE ELSE! there are special spots to insert a screw driver or bar. trying to split in another point will damage housing.

THis is what the inside looks like. while you are this far make sure to clean the magnet. but remember to put it back in.......

everything out.

the output shaft completely disasimbled. All those little pins are your needle bears. dont lose them.

I used vasiline to reistall and hold all the needle bearing in place. Again make sure they are all there.

Putting everythnig back together

you can see that the end of the shaft is tapped and threaded.

And the job complete. it wasnt to bad to do. this was my first transfer case split.

Anyway i hope this will help you all out. let me know if i can help out anymore. i have lots more pictures i can send you.

for some reason i found my shaft very hard to drill and tap ,dont now if it being the 231 made a difference just make sure you measure as many time as you need to and drill and tap slowly plenty of oil/lube ive been running mine now for over a year no issues what so ever...

I hope I can do it without having to remove all that... I always end up with extra parts when I put something back together. LuLz
