Default Intake swap

I have a 1998 xj I bought a intake manifold off a 2000. I know I need to buy headers. Looking at a 63mm throttle body. Anything else I need? Is there any work I should do when I have the manifold off?

^ This. The injector upgrade is well worth your time and money.

Here's a good thread with dyno numbers and additional mods that can help:

Well written piece and some numbers to go with it. I have used Chassis Dyno's for tuning new setups with engine in car. But all baseline dyno tests are run on an Engine Dyno to remove other issues from the equation. But still his are valid.

He does one thing I would NEVER suggest to anyone (well let me put that differently do that to a head, intake that you value or engine that can not be replaced quickly) and that is home brew port work without a flow bench. As most all you know just too many things can go wrong quickly. Too much/little too lean/rich from cylinder to cylinder It takes a long time to develop this skill and few are really good at it. I have paid thousands of dollars for port work to head and matched intakes that cost as much as the port work.

But a small amount on a stock engine will give extra HP along with good machine work. So he is correct on the idea and if he screws up the head or intake just throw them away and get another one. The only real issue is a possible lean cylinder and that is easy to do.

Thanks for the info I will be doing this in July so I will have time to buy all the parts. On the injector is there a part number I need to buy?

Just search "703 injectors" on here. People rebuild them when they get them from the junkyard. You can di it yourself with the injectors out of a 95-98 chrysler & dodge cars and vans with the 2.4L engines if im not mistaken. Spend $80 on rebuilt one or close to $200 for brand new ones. On the newer style intake, you'll have to extend the wires to the one sensor on it and I think cap a tube on it as well. I've read you'll have to flip the fuel clip upside down. If you get the APN header you'll have to do some grinding on one of the tubes. And when you do a header, change your motor mounts. Brown dog and ironman are the 2 that will most likely come up. I say ironman but that just me....read a lot about vibes with the brown dogs. I always refer people to ironman4x4fab.com.

I've been looking at this swap, just curious if it can still be done to the Renix?

Does anybody know what size wire to use when extending the wire for the sensor on the newer style intake?

Can be done on a renix. Will need power steering brackets from 95+ years. Will most likely want to gasket match the head ports to an HO gasket and the intake to a renix gasket. Cant remember how much of a difference there is in the height of the ports. Will need to use all sensors, throttle body, and fuel rail from the renix. I believe you will also need to drill and tap holes in the intake to accept the Renix throttle body. either that or use a 91-95 HO throttle body and adapt the Renix TPS on to it.
