Default I Need Help With Wiring an HID Kit(Stock Plugs, Adapters and headaches)

Hi everyone. My Brother gave me an eBay special HID kit made by OPT7. I would like to install it in my 1998 XJ. The kit says it has 9006 bulbs. I pulled my drivers side headlught today and the plug in my XJ wont plug into anything in this kit. I know this makes me sound like an idiot but Ive searched all across the internet and have found notbing but misinformation and confusion.

First off I need to know what type of bulb my XJ uses. It doesnt have stock headoights. I installed an H4 conversion a while back. It still uses a 7x6 square headlight ajd I TNINK its a 9004 type bulb. Its a 3 prong. 1 horizontally on the top and 1 vertically on each side of that prong. The stock XJ headlight is a 9004, osnt it?

My next question is can anyone show me where I caj get a pair of adapters to plug my female 9004(Im guesing) H4 plug into the 9006 plugs supplied in this kit? Am I missing something obvious here? Am I supposed to cut off my stock H4 female headlight plug?

I really need help here guys. Im sorry for posting such a hard to read, con fusing and dumb string of questions but believe me when I say Ive looked EVERYWHERE online and have nothing to show for it. I can get pictures tomorrow of the HID kit. Thanks in advance.

Something like this?
If this isn't the exact one, there look to be numerous combinations available.

Yes exactly. Somethingnlike that if not that exact same one. I just need to figure out if my HID kit has male or female 9006 plugs. It looks like the H4 plugs are the correct type though. Thanks!

So thats all I should need to run this HID kit then, right? Do I need to worry about resistence or frying my factory H4 plugs coming from the woring harness or anything?

I just realized something else. I cant even plug these HID bulbs into the back of my H4 headlight housings can I? Theres no such thing as 7x6 headlight housoings for this type of bulb as far as I can tell. Well thats just ****ing great. Anyone have any ideas? I dont think I can trim anything to make it fit, can I?

HIDs dont go in halogen housings. Its illegal and will blind oncoming drivers. You need HID projectors and can modify the halogen housings to accommodate them but its a decent amount of work.

Most likely not, and you wouldn't want to if you could. HID's are normally designed for a projector to have a concentrated and focused beam. The reflector for your headlights would scatter the light resulting in less than optimal pattern and cutoff. This would make you a hated and possibly dangerous driver to any oncoming traffic.
Check out the different projector/HID retrofit kits to see what you need.
One caveat to this, I am by no means an expert in this area and only have factory bi-xenon headlights in my 2014 WK2. Making something like this work in an XJ would require some research and input from more knowledgeable people.
Good luck, I hope you get it to work out.

I'm going to have to disagree with you here. My headlights are autopal H4 conversion headlights. The pattern and fluting in the lens is way different from conventional halogen lens and I just watched a video on YouTube last night from a company who sells them and they installed HIDs in these headlights. They showed pictures of the end result and they have a good cutoff and aren't blinding or anything. I'm sure they'll be fine for this HID kiot. I just need help figuring how to make the wiring work, but I think I figured itnoht.

I'm pretty sure all OPT7 ballasts are the same, as in the plugs don't differ. EBay sells just the bulbs for these so I think I'm going to buy 9003H4 bulbs by themselves and plug them into the ballasts I already own and I should be good to go.

Explain this to the cops after you blind them.

Nah I'm good. I think I'll just tell them to register here and PM you since you know everything. Then they can ask you whatever else they want while they're at it. Cure for cancer, time travel, etc. That will free up some extra time for me to go on about my life

Oh update by the way. I spoke with an eBay seller that sells OPT7 HID kits and just bought the bulbs and wiring for an H4 ,9003 headlight. It was only $16 for the pair. Didn't need adapters or anything after all. I'll try to remember to post pics when they're installed. Thanks again for the help.

Hey do y'all think that buying a pair of these "projector" H4 headlight housings would help give the proper cutoff and throw for legitimate HIDs?

Buy good projector housings like https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f10/hi...usings-194414/ But even if you do hids right they are still illegal in some states to add them to anything that didn't have them factory. So check your state laws or ask a cop before you spend the money and end up with a ticket and made to take them off.
