Default I cant fold my quarters!???

So I took my xj to haspin acres in laurel Indiana couple weeks ago and knocked all my flares off. I'm going to do a fender trim and a cut fold in the rear. The problem is my lower quarters are no good totally rusted under the end caps. The line and above where the fold begins is salvageable. So the question is how am I going to fill the gaping body cavity after I cut off this whole panel to the "fold" line???

That seems a little flimsy. Would nothing being there effect the structural integrity?

Fold whatever is left of them. And then rivet the above mentioned piece of tin there.

Not at all. Only down side to not filling it in is road grime will spray up into the cab

Original sheet metal is 19 gauge. Get some of that and rivet it in. You can do 3M panel adhesive between the metal before you rivet if you really want.

There isn't much of anything there now, so any new metal would be an improvement.
