Hitch. It ties both sides of the unibody rails together. Combined with a receiver mount d-ring shackle, when you pull from it the forces will be spread between the two sides instead of just one. Installed one on the front of my XJ also and believe it or not, I felt that the front end is more stable now that both front rails are tied together. Also allows me to use a removable winch mount so I can use it front or rear.

How would you plan on safely adding hooks?

Yes i was looking at front bumpers with
Recievers cuz i had the same idea. So if i bought and or made a front bumper with a reciever it would be strong enough to handle an 8k winch

Only thing with a hitch is you loose ground clearance. For smaller lift guys or stock it's a big difference.

On a 6.5 lift I've dug my rear hitch into the ground or rocks with out the ball on it. I ended up removing it.
But yes it is a good pull point to a certain extent.. I've seen pics of them ripped right out of the thin unibody rails with the bolts still on them. That happens from some asshat backing up 10 feet and yanking.
