you'll break 5 three-quarter clip ujoints before you hurt 1 carrier. unless you're just "lucky" like that

I like those odds. but hey. you're gonna do what you're gonna do. if you don't have a heavy foot then this shouldn't even be a discussion

The D/30 is a pretty good axle for anything up to a 35, I run a D/30 with 35s, 4340 shafts, 4.88 gears, locked, and have never had a problem with it.
I do wheel hard enough to spin an axle tube on the rear C/8.25 so I would say your D/30 should hold up fine unless you are all throttle all the time.

From what I gather I should be fine:

Here's the Plan:

Run my current Stock Shafts with the 297's and see how long it lasts.
Depending on how long it takes me to ruin one, I'll swap out for 760's with full clips, or just keep running spare stock shafts.

If it becomes to much of a problem I can always go back to 33's.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I have a Dana 44 front with chromo shafts and warn hubs. I set it up so hopefully the failures go like this hub, then u joint, and then the axle shaft. I did this so I can replace the weakest link easily on the trail. Now speaking from experience your week link with the 760 will be ears or u joint. An easy fix with unit bearings. But whatever you do don't drive on a blown shaft!!!!!!!!!! That can separate your ball joints and that isn't an easy trail fix!

I ran 36" iroks on my dana 30 with chromoly shafts and 4.56's with a lock rite, never had a single issue for 4+ years. Infact the guy I sold it to is still running it and no breakage. He did manage to break a rear shaft but never any issues up front. Dana 30's are stronger than people give them credit for...

No axle is going to be 100% bullet proof. Some guys can run 35s or bigger on a locked dana 30 for years. And some can break a dana 30 on 33s,It comes down to how its upgraded and how you drive it.
