Any car can be waterproofed with enough silicone ! I proved this 20 years ago with my Holden Gemini ( I think in America it is a Chevy Geo ) I was going to the north west of Australia during the wet season and knew I would come across flooded roads, so I filled every electrical connection with silicone, lots around the distributor and plug wires. I also sealed the air box and got some vacuum hoses for the intake and exhaust. On a few flooded roads I had water over the roof ! Did get some misfire from one plug wire not being sealed properly but overall had no real problems ( just water in the cab and through all my camping gear ) Silicone is a PITA though when it comes to repairs and servicing

carry brake cleaner to spray out the cap on the distruber it is a quick and easy way to dry it out. and i would say try to avoid water that you dont know how deep it is. i went into a mud hole and found myself up to the windows in water very fast like

Yeah same river but over a period of a week or so and I took about a half mile trip down the center of it. And I've learned the hard way that there are tons of things on a Jeep that "should" be a certain way lol.

Totally forgot about the dizzy cap! I've heard of a few people that make a gasket for it and then completely block off the vent hole. They claim they've had no ill effects but I haven't tried it so IDK. Another option is to add a vent tube to the dizzy cap and extend it to higher areas.

1. Snorkel
2. Move alternator up (can find how on here) or buy one with a warranty
3. Di-electric grease all your connectors
4. Make sure all your breather hoses are high
There really is not alot of river crossings in Texas though... (not where I have wheeled...) Get close enough to Louisiana and you will probably need it.

There are some guys down here who mod a Tupperware around their alternator and take the top off when not in water to prevent overheating... but it does not seem to help all that much. (Tupperware melts/ leaks) If you did it right, it might help

Sounds like the greatest Youtube video of all time.
