Was contemplating spraying my newly purchased xj down with some rattle can od green. Was wondering how many cans everyone typically uses on an xj also any rattle can tips, I've never done a whole vehicle. Much appreciated!

save your fingers and use a roll on mixed with mineral spirits for the large flat areas. then use rattle cans for around the door handles, mirrors and such where a roller can't get into.
use high density foam rollers, the short ones work best.
i used tremclad blue. they make it in a paint can and rattle cans.
this is what i did and it turned out great.
feeling dubious, look up 50 dollar paint job. that what inspired me and i couldn't have been happier. 6 years later and it's still holding up pretty good. will likely redo it this summer once i get my make-shift paint booth finished. but i will spray with hvlp gun.

i used a 1 gallon pail of tremclad and mixed with mineral spirits to about the consistency of water. maybe a little thicker.
and probably 3 or 4 spray cans for the hard to get a roller in places. spray those areas first and reapply if needed.
but as with all paint jobs, about 95 percent is in the prep.

This adventure will be a first for me, so I am planning on taking my time with it. Did you prime first, my clear coat is shot so I was going to do at least one or two coats? Thanks for the feedback.

i only primed the spots that i used filler or glazing puddy on or where i sanded down to bare metal.
