How long to do your SYE?
Hey guys I'm just trying to get a feel for how long it took some of you guys to install your SYE's. I have a run this weekend and I plan to do it all Friday night and leaving Saturday morning. Think I can make it?

First SYE? Expect all Friday night. It took me all Saturday to do my first. My 3rd should go quick
Do your research on install first and u will get an idea of what needs to happen. Get under there, drop your crossmember, lower the tranny/tcase, and unbolt the 6 bolts holding the tcase to the tranny. Then pull out your tcase and do the sye on a bench. It's much easier. There's a 15 min video on YouTube about an sye install that is awesome help and watch it a couple times before you do it.

Pretty easy and straight forward hardest part for me was getting the linkage adjusted, with that being said be ready for surprises when I did it the oil pump teeth were strip clean off and the shift fork was damn near worn through, luckily quadratec is right Dow the street from me. Just got to hope for the best let us know how it turns out

Haha yeah my jeep is good at little "presents" when I work on it. I'm just hoping when I break it apart that all is well. We have a big run this weekend and I definitely don't want to ride passenger in someone else's. I'm going to pull the tcase tomorrow night and hopefully take it apart if I have time so I would be able to make it to the parts store Friday in case there is something wrong. But I'll let you guys know tomorrow how it looks

Also before you start, go to NAPA and get lock ring pliers. Also get a few bottles of fluid. Do you have a custom driveshaft going in aswell?

Great write up and a little humor mixed in as well.

8mm or 5/16 wrench to remove driveline strap bolts, 13mm deep socket or standard with extension to remove center trans mount bolts, 15mm deep socket to remove crossmember, 18mm standard and extension (half inch drive) to remove transmission mount (note that the 4 studs are offset to the driverss side), 9/16 ratchet wrench to take off the 6 nuts that hold the case to the trans.

About half an hour once the case was out. Took longer to remove and install it than it did to actually do the internals. You should have no problem, so long as you can get the case back up in there. I didn't have a jack that would work so I had to bench press that SOB up and in. Thank god for those long mounting studs.

I'm not sure what the big hype is about pulling the t-case. I did mine on the vehicle, didn't even have to drop the cross member. I had plenty of room with 5.5" of lift and I've gotten fairly comfortable on a creeper. Don't get me wrong, I'm not downing anyone who pulled the t-case. Just saying, for me, it wasn't necessary.
