Relay. ALWAYS use a relay. I have 160w of lights on two of my switches and 240w on one of them. All with relays.

The PO tried running just two lights through a cheap 12v switch and it practically burned the switch up. Melted wires. It was a mess.

 

It varies, if you stay in the center you can have the full depth of the console (a little more than an inch).

I got my switches and indicator lights at Radio Shack. If you don't use indicator lights you could add more.

 

is that roof console out of a ZJ, WJ, or one of our XJ's. I really want to swap one in for my switches. Kinda like an attack chopper with cool switches all over.

If it's out of a ZJ/WJ do you just hook up power/ground or does the compass / clock / temp work off of their computers? Any input would be appreciated.

Switches for LED bar, rear lights, interior 'mood lights' and toggle is fan override.
Pillar pod holds water temp and tranny temp gauges.
Switches activate relays. Relays are connected to a 3 circuit auxiliary power system (link) that also powers CB radio.

In my 01 I ripped out the ashtray, cut diamond plate to match, installed rockers on that and then power coated. I love it, always ready to go. Before that I took my factory blank and dremeled it so I could fit a cheapo 2 pole in there and that worked for while but looked like some junk.

 

Daystar makes these vent switches for tj's, but they work in xj's as well. I have some waiting to go in. You can see them in this thread:

It's out of an XJ. Came with wiring and brackets but the display doesn't work so I haven't bothered wiring up the temp sensor yet.
Another project for this summer.

check in the for sale section and Craigslist .... I got mine from a member who had a few different options

 

It depends on which model xj you have but I just replaced the fob control box above my rear view mirror. I ran one main power up along with a couple that are powered for special uses where the switch is an overide. I then ran them back down to a relay and fuse junction box for all of my accessories. Always run relays and fuses. I also am in the proccess of making an insulated, watertight and vented box for everything. In case of a fire, I would have more time to grab my extinguisher. Electrical fires are no fun so do it right or not at all.
