Default HOW-TO Add Talkback to CB Radio youtube video I made

Hey guys, just thought this may be helpful to some people here.

I just did this to my Uniden PRO 520XL and thought I would record it. My understanding is that this will work on most CB radios that have external speaker and PA jacks on the back.

Please feel free to spread the video!

quick question, what is the purpose/benefit of having this talk back, other than being able to hear your voice as you talk to someone?
do you hear yourself all the time as you talk on channel? or is it only when you set it to pa or use the rf?

Talk back serves a couple of purposes... If your radio has a mic gain or dynamic control, and you bump it you'll know it because you can't hear yourself anymore. If you run an echo mic (most people don't like them, but they are out there) you 'll know if you bump the echo controls and no one can understand you. Power mics also have batteries that wear out, so you'd hear that as well.

It's just a way of hearing approximately what you sound like to others. I say approximately because there are things that can affect the way you sound to others that won't show up on talk back.

In this part of CA, ch. 17 is the main channel for truck drivers. It switches to 19 when you get further away. 19 is still used by the drivers who forget to switch when they come out here. We (local radio guys and 4x4 guys) are on 21 mostly.
