If it did, I would think it would be negligible. I don't see how it could really hurt anything to try it.

well he was saying only space it 1/4" so I thought maybe removing the weatherstripping would leave 1/4" gap.

The problem I see with it is that the air would have to "ram" into the firewall before escaping out the gap. Not really a problem, per se, just maybe not as efficient as raising the hood using spacers.

Though, I'm no engineer... I'm saying all of this in theory. I have no idea if it would make a difference or not.

I see the benefit of releasing trapped heat mainly while driving offroad and after engine shutdown. Not really while cruising at speed.
Also, save some of that airflow for travelling along the transmission tunnel.

I removed mine a while back in an attempt to vent some heat. The XJ hood overlaps the lip on the firewall more than any other vehicle I've ever had, so I don't think the gap will do much. Well, other than letting pine needles into the engine compartment.
