I was thinking, if the wiper vents were used and you put some holes in the firewall to push heat into that compartment then you would make the wiper vents functional right?
Is this possible? Air is pushed back there with basic physics going down the road...
people put airfilters in there...

that actually sounds like a valid idea b/c it removes the concern for the water coming in while the truck is stationary. However, you would do well to attempt some drainage tests. Only a limited area in that cowl actually allows anything in/out; you would need to cut up or remove the fake grate panel below it. I just know that a lot of people claim that's where the water gets into their cabin from. In defense to that though, I've noticed it has more to do with the seam weld of the uni-body and how water drips right off of that on to the HVAC blower seal.
Pitstopusa.com sells flush mounted bumper ducts. I can't visualize the firewall space right now but this would look much better than a rough/rust hole saw cut in the firewall/cowl panel.

You will smell anything in the engine bay thru the vents. If your engine bay is clean it shouldn't be a problem. But spilled/ leaking coolent/oil will stink
