home made long arms
It's been a while since I've been on here and posted anything. But today I was thinking on how I want my jeep built. I bought then promptly sold my zone 4.5 inch aal kit because I want a shorter lift but I but I want long arms. The way I want my Xj set up is a 3 inch lift with long arms and I can't find for the life of me a company that sells such a kit. I know at 3 inches I have to skid plate the (enter dirty word) out of it which is fine . I just want to be low slung for the lowest center of gravity I can get while being flexy. So I'm considering building my own long arms to fit . I was wondering how hard is it to do this? I have a background in fabrication so that area is covered . But would it be just a hassle on a 3 inch lift? Would it even fit or be effective? My design in mind would be a 4link like front. I just want to be low because some of the places I hit are heavily angled and I don't want to be seeing the downhill side of an up hill trail.

At 3" of lift any company will tell you a long arm kit isn't worth while doing, the very least seems to be 4 1.2" and many say that's to short. I plan on a 4 1/2" long arm myself early next year if all goes as planned with my health.
That's what I've been told too. I figure if I'm going to lift my jeep I'm going to do it right and to the point. And I'm in the same boat this is a beginning of next year build . I hope your health cooperates so you can get your build up and running

I've definitely seen kits that are rated for 3.5" minimum and have seen threads of people running long arms around they height. Sorry I have no concrete info to back it up but it can definitely be done. You may want to shoot closer to 3.5-4" just for some extra clearance on the arms.
Have you thought about your shocks at all? With so much droop and so little up travel you may want to run some kind of shock hoop/tower to stuff some super high travel shocks under there.
Edit: I'm currently doing a TnT long arm kit that I plan to run around 5" of lift on 35s.

you'll definitely want at least a 3.5" lift. here's the only long arm kit I've come across for low lift heights
looks like an awesome kit for a fair price. I don't know why I can't talk anyone into buying it

building your own links is stupid simple. get a couple brackets and joints from a reputable supplier, measure stuff, cut stuff, weld stuff. easy. you could even plate your stock crossmember (plate it very well) and mount your new arms off of that. building a custom crossmember is usually the hardest part of the process
but if you're going through the trouble of homebrew, skip the radius arms and go straight to a 3 link

That link was very helpful thank you. I agree to that seems like a nice kit for the price. I was thinking too about longer traveling shocks. I've read the low cog sticky like a jeep bible and am pretty certain that's what I want to do. That full traction kit though looks like a nice piece of equipment I'll look into that. And on a final note I agree I've been trying to avoid the more radius arm styles I don't have anything against them but for what I want a 4 link style or 3 link would be more fitting.
