You can use a v8 zj alternator with minor mods. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/v8-alternator-95151/ Or if you really want some power look into a mean green alternator.

Yeah, I think around $400. I recall coming across a thread somewhere where they put an alternator in a xj from am ambulance, something like a 280 amp alternator.

Look up Finish Line in Detroit or Ohio Generator in, well, Ohio. I believe they both do custom windings for XJ's. I had a 190 amp made for a Ford, cost me $250.

It is cheaper and just as efficent to get a good capacitor and a good battery. I had two 12" kicker 1500w L7s and 4 kicker 6x9s. I never had a problem once I got the cap. and a optima battery.

Singer alternators makes good and affordable HO alts. Check him out. and of course Mechman and DC power alts but those are a little more money.

yes it is a much better bet to get an expensive alternator that you will probably ruin if you like the mud/water... then again you might not enjoy using your jeep in that manner. The cap worked fine for me... and all on the inside...

just do some researching and youll find something you can do yourself, i own a shop out here in socal with my dad and we specialize in alternators and starters. On my last jeep i made a 200amp alternator and for my current jeep im shooting for 265amp but ill most likely be at 250
