Ok, So I have been reading a lot about these conversions, as they appear to be a pretty great upgrade for our dim crappy lights. There are some things I have learned, and others I have not seen a defined answer.
I know that the 6000 K light are the most common, white, and best to see, and the higher you go, two things occur, visibility, although better than stock, goes down from the 6000k, and Cops Notice you more.
I have also seen the definate advantages of replacing the wiring harness, which is a no brainer no.
The question I do have is on the housing. I have heard that diomond cut is horrible, but some swear by it. Some say those black ones look really cheap, and some scatter light horribly. Etc. Etc.
Is there a definitive preference to the housing that we should use for HID conversions. I was going to use those black ones, as I thought the black look would look cool with my bed lined Jeep, but if the light is scattered, I'd assume not interested. Thanks for any help, and I understand their may be some debate on this topic, but I am looking to go the right route, and not try the Cheap Route. I have seen links to some of the better wiring harnesses, and bulbs are everywhere, but the housing are what I am curious about.
Not sure there is much of a difference, but I have a 1988 Loredo.

DO NOT GO HID WITHOUT A PROPER PROJECTOR RETROFIT !
Your cut off will be scattered all over the place, You will blind everyone.
Buy an upgraded H4 harness, An some Autopal, Hella, IPF, or Cibie E code H4 housings with Decent bulbs You will be a bunch brighter than stock and have a great cut off pattern that will not blind everyone around you. I did it yesterday and it is a Huge improvement.

Thanks to both of you, and Tom, I just looked at your write up shortly before I asked my question. What do you mean Retrofit? That is what I have been confused by. So, H4 Harness, which would make sense with H4 lights lol, bulbs, housing. So which part are you talking about retrofit? Thanks again for the info, and your pics look great, and the responce after taking your trip back from your grandmas sold me, Just confused on the retrofit. And do you have links to where to purchase certain things?

Sounds good. I am a college kid and Deliver Pizzas at night, and I hate Blue and purple headlights, the white is fine, even the yellow, but the blue and purple just seem to darn bright, probably because the color makes you notice it more.
But to go with Gee Oh Dee, does anyone have links for the retrofits?
And you said go with the IPF housing like quadratec has because they have a sold pattern and nice sturdy housing that's glass, right? makes for a safer light, and less noticable to cops, then say... blinding them. lol

If I've got a HD headlight harness with an H4 plug, can I use those?

Here's a retrofit writeup with links to all components used.

He also doesn't recommend using the HIDs he got.
NorCalMR2 is, except plug, all set up.
Just gotta figure out how to plug a H7 bulb into a H4 harness.
Is it a cut and splice job, or not?
