I saw the bake part in the write up. What purpose does that serve?

The D-bag edition is in my POS Ranger, they are pointed low, at the car in front of me bumper, and the aren't powerful at all. Cheap $30 EBay kit. Better than stock, but JUST barely. I have NEVER gotten flashed in it because it is really more athletics than light producing. That was my first and only time I will do that (IT still works, but like crap)

I did a 04'-06' Maxima projector/TRS HID kit, and with Pilot housings on my XJ. Awesome performance, adjusted correctly too. Do it the right way like I learned too. I just bought one component a month till I could afford everything.
So if you don't use the projector and do it the d-bag way they don't really have much more light output than the stock ones?

In a stock housing the light is scattered all over the place,The projector lens focuses the light to a beam. But what about a led retrofit kit ? http://olympusoffroad.3dcartstores.c...air_p_161.html Its 115 bucks and works in any stock light housing out there.

Didn't even know about that but after seeing how its pretty easy to make a projector housing for HIDs that's what I wanna do. It looks fun and I'll learn some stuff. Thanks tho

It just loosens the adhesive to separate the housings.

No even cheap DDM hids put out way to much scattered light in reflective housings. If his hids are not very bright he has a wiring problem.

After market LED bulbs are still sub par. His 115 dollar LED lights rate at 1800 lumens. Way better than stock but for the same price you can get Morimoto hid bulbs and ballasts rated at 3000 lumens.

Thanks for bringing up our lights!
Here's a comparison of light output ( picture is of j10 headlights but would be about the same as a xj)

For the same amount or less you can have LEDs showing you the way!
Our lights are 3600 lm for the pair and carry a lifetime warranty!

You got the lifetime warranty on your side but as is how it sits right now a good set of hids puts out 6000 lm for the same price. Cree leds almost seem to be getting better and better every day. Only thing is once they get to the brightness of hids they are going to need to be in a projector but with the heat sink they need and the already protruding projector is there going to be room for them in a XJ without substantial modification?

It's just that you can only expect 'so much' in terms of performance from a $20-30 EBay kit in terms of brightness. I had the H4 wiring harness too-so no problem with wiring as some one speculated. The 'The Retrofit Source' HID kit is just awesome. If you want OEM or better performance, it's what a lot of people doing retrofits use. 5 year no hassle warranty too! Lifetime warranty is good and all, but I'd rather have reliability than have to send cheap bulbs or ballasts back a few times a year. Those LED bulbs on this thread look promising for someone not wanting to spend what a good retrofit costs. Are they the same output as Trucklite's on low?

I think you have to customize them yourself.

Our led headlight bulbs are comparable to truck light when put in a quality housing. So from stock you would be in about $200 including our bulbs

You guys are full of all sorts of information. I'm pretty sure I'm just gonna save up to do the retrofit...have wanted to do it since I discovered what they were, plus they look pretty damn cool.

Be sure the projector housing doesn't sit too close to the outer lens. Don't want to ruin it with excess heat

I have HID'S from Karnage Motor sports that I'm selling... MJ is gonna be mainly offroad only so I'm gonna gut most the wiring from it... I want the least amount of wires possible so I'm going a different rout... I think they are 4k or 6k as I didn't want the blue... just clear... I used a set if glass headlights from eBay that we're $40 and convert to H4 bulbs but I'll be keeping those... If your interested hit me up...
