Default Help me pick a stroker kit.

Ok so my engine has been acting up lately and have thrown tons of money at it trying to fix it to no avail. At this point I'm like **** it, let's stroke/rebuild it and get all new sensors. Now I found this site http://www.cleggengine.com/stroker-k...oker-kits.html and was wondering if I got everything that's says stage 2 on it (cam job, head, etc) would I be good to go? Now, I'm not just gonna dice into this not knowing what I'm doing, my buddy stroked his engine and he would be helping me. Also, how much would the machine shop charge to bore the block? And if this kit won't work or isn't good please let me know! Thanks!

I have built both RPM Machine strokers and 505 strokers. Both are excellent. Basically from what I understand RPM gets their stuff mostly from Zach at 505 performance. I would probably just go straight to Zach at 505 if I do it again, excellent customer service, great trouble shooting, super nice guy. One thing that I liked was that Zach designed his Stage 1 system so that it could be run with a stock computer management system. If you want to run a different computer system, you can go nuts, if you want one to work with your stock system, they can do it. Works very well.

I talked to the guys at Clegg before I did my first one. They swore up and down I could not put an older 4.0 into a newer XJ. Said it was totally different. I ended up doing it anyway, works great. That kind of turned me off to their credibility. They may be perfectly capable, I just didn't feel good about working with them.

I run a Rugged Ridge polished stainless header on mine, so far so good. Wasn't too outrageously expensive. I also run 2.5" exhaust on mine, sounds mean. There are a lot of little items you have to upgrade with a stroker, but in the end it is worth it. I love both of them I have built. If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM, I have been through it all, lol.

No sure what a machine shop will charge, it varies. My only recommendation is to pick someone reputable. In my opinion it's not worth porting, polishing, etc... It is costly and results in penny horsepower. Spend the money in upgrading somewhere else that will be more effective. I think I had 400$ into the machine work on my last one. That was to flux, bore, line hone, surface and do all my head work. I felt it was a good deal and he did an excellent job.

A Few links for ya.

Sadly MadXJ.com isn't around anymore, they had a great spreadsheet for calculating compression ratio. I'll see if I still have it somewhere.

This one is a "MUST READ!!"

To help keep as much in the header as possible, consider a ceramic coated header.

You don't need a new PCM.

I dont think you need a new computer, just a piggy back system maybe, not real sure. I built both of mine to run on stock computer, much easier and still has plenty of power. 505 can also "reflash" your comp which according to them can increase your power approx 10%. I have not done that, there is no lack of power at all as of now. Maybe in the future if I want to get crazy.

So something like this http://www.autoanything.com/performa...A1777A0A0.aspx would work well?

No.
You don't need it. The stroker will be just fine when controlled by a stock PCM.

Alright then. Ok, so here is what is on my list so far http://www.cleggengine.com/jeep-4-0l...l-242-amc.html
http://www.cleggengine.com/jeep-4-0-...shaft-kit.html
http://www.cleggengine.com/jeep-4-0l...ed-valves.html
Plus new fuel rail (mine is no good, is there a certain type I should get?) I'm going to pm programbo about fuel injectors, bored tb, new map and iac sensors (already have a new tps sensor) new cps sensor, I need a new fuel pump, may as well get a new water pump, 180* tstat, new altenator plus the big three upgrade, gatorback belt, valve cover gasket, what else do I need?

Edit: forgot to put header and new exhaust. Plus I need to run new wiring for my rear o2 or somehow trick the computer into thinking it is functioning right because apparently it is reading bad and the shop cant figure out why, and the o2s are from rock auto.
Also forgot to mention plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor.

You don't need a new MAP or a new IAC. The OEM versions are outstanding.

A cooler t-stat is the last thing you want with any 4.0L or 4.XL stroker.

I know but I have been having problems with one of my sensors and can't pinpoint it so I thought I would just replace them all from rockauto. And I don't? One of the links you sent me the guy stroked his engine and put one in. Not all of the stuff i am replacing necessarily had to do with performance upgrades (ie sensors). I just want to replace them so I do not have anymore or any future problems with them.

That's an OBDI build. You can't use an adjustable MAP on an OBDII

I didn't look at it. I built my own years ago....but that's a whole other can-o-worms.
