Default Headlight conversion problems.

Hey guys, I'm don't normally get stumped on electrical, but this one has me. I recently went through and did all my ground connections under the hood (driver fender, passenger side block, passenger fender). This was about a week ago and haven't had a problem. This isn't related to the problem, I'm just saying it so that's not the assumed problem. I bought hella h4 globes to get rid of the crap stock ones, and bought "New Brights" two beam L.E.D h4 conversions to go in them. These are a ballast type with a high output led facing up, and another facing down. I installed the passenger side led with the factory halogen in place on driver side and both the high and low worked on the led (though the led is a LOT brighter). I installed the driver side and now they won't come off of high beams (both top and bottom leds lit). When switched to low the high beam indicator is half lit, then switch to high and the high beam indicator lights up to full brightness but the headlights don't change. I double checked the ballast connections and made sure no wires were pinched. All seems well there. Has anyone any idea what might cause this? It's as if having one halogen hooked up kept it working. I didn't spend a lot of time on it because it got dark and it's 4° F and snowing. I'll work on it more after work tomorrow.

I literally just had this problem a few weeks ago. Same exact thing. You need to wire in a putco harness between the headlights and the headlight cables. Being that wasn't done and your brights are stuck on, you fried your multifunction switch. It's $60 out the door at auto zone with a lifetime warranty. The harness is about $35 on Amazon.

Check and see if you have a fog light relay? Pulling it should fix your problem.

I agree. Upgrade your wiring.

OP, first I just want to clarify, LEDs use a driver. Flourescents and HID bulbs use a ballast. A ballast is nothing more than a transformer to step voltage up for proper function of the bulb.

Second, look for the relay or fuse for the fog light. Forgot which but people that have this problem it's due to the fog light wiring. Some people also have to turn the lights off then back on to fix the issue.

I feel terrible. I searched for it first but didn't find anything. Pulling the fog lamp relay worked for now. I'm going to split the loom on a warm day and rebuild the harness. The pattern isn't perfect being halogen reflectors with L.E.D bulbs, but the bulbs were designed for halogen reflectors and the pattern is pretty good. I'm satisfied. Thanks for the replys guys.
