Ok know there's a thread similar to this, but I didn't want to hi-jack and my question is different.
The other day a hippy guy comes to the shop and wants us to change his spark plugs. Simple enough till it was a expedition ( I think it was a 5.7 ) not a easy task cause the fire wall covers half the plugs ????? What was ford thinking any ways the guy had 0/0 " streetwires " audio wire ( never seen them that big in a car??? But any how it interested me. So I ask the guy about the wire, cause I wanted to know what he was running on stuff that big. Turns out it was in it when he bought it. They weren't plug into any thing
Any way he told me I could have if I pulled it ding ding ding, I took it
So question is : will the audio wire serve the jeep ( 98' 4.0 ) well for a ground wire or is this wire crap for such things?

It will work, per'se, but audio wire really isn't meant for under the hood. It really should be a wire w/ coating rated for oils, gases and high temperature.

So if I was to strip off the coating that's on it, and wrap it with say --electrical tape and or some heat shrink on thin perhaps ?

My knukonceptz 0/1ga. audio power wire says it's outer PVC coating is "impervious" to grease. I think streetwires is MTX, and if the outer jacket is pretty thick I would assume it would be OK to run in the engine bay. Do some research and see if you can find out for sure.
I would not strip the insulating jacket off though.

I have ran "Monster Wire" under the hood a couple of times for audio hookups where I ran through the battery for more filtering that can only be gained by a direct battery pos. and neg. post hookups.
