Not to be mean or rude, but it sounds to me like you need to do some research. Cherokee XJ or KL? Grand Cherokee ZJ, WJ, WK or WK2? Too many assumptions have to be made to try and answer the question as written, any and all of which may be wrong. Not to mention everyone has their own opinion.

Don't get me wrong I love my XJ, but if I had to do it again I think I would rather have coils at all 4 corners. I'm too cheap to buy a conversion kit and not engineering inclined enough to make my own.

Stock to stock, the zj is more comfier and has more power options compared to the xj BUT that also leads to a lot of electronic failure and headache. Suspension wise, the xj is ahead with having both leaf and coil suspension. This give a balanced combo of flex and ride. Off camber section, the xj is gonna win with that compare to a coil/coil zj which can lean a lot.

I'd go xj easier to lift (in my opinion) less components involved and I like the look better and there were so many you can always find parts anywhere

There is absolutely no contest. I had both. Side by side comparison.
Xj has more ground to body clearance and a much lower cog.
Xj weighs a lot less.
Xj Is not as top heavy
I have as much flex out of my leaf springs as I do my coils.
Grand cherokee is a nicer ride. But not near the off road machine.

If i we're to buy another old jeep as a dd/weekend warrior it'd be a wj. Luxury on the inside and you still have the ability to make it badass on the outside.
If it's between an xj and zj, xj wins all day

Honestly i would buy a grand over a xj.Here i can buy a nicer grand then i can a xj for the same money. Most grands get used as a minivan and most xjs get used and abused off road lately.Aftermarket for the grand is almost par with the xj but things cost more for it.And in 98 the grand limited 5.9 was the fastest suv that year enough said.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but don't most ZJ's have full time 4wd? In addition to all other points mentioned, I'd take that into consideration as well. I like being able to disengage the front axle.
