I recently picked up a Dana 30, and 8.25 with 3.55 gears. My jeep currently has 3.07's with 32's. My question is should I spend the money and regear the new axles, or should I just swap them in, and use the money i would have spent on gears and get a roof rack and rock sliders?
Even with 3.07's my jeep does all right on the freeway. I can for the most part maintain 80, up hills I have to shift between 4th and 3rd, but it does ok. otherwise 5th is pretty much useless, but that was expected. Will 3.55's be a noticeable upgrade? Any thoughts or suggestions? Anything is appreciated. Thanks

I'm not sure if you need quite that much gearing for 32's. I think 3.73's were supposed to be perfect for the autos and 4.10's for manuals.
You can always put them on and then see how you like them?

Guess it would depend on whether or not you were planning on staying with the 32s or going larger. I'm running 35s with a manual and 4.88 gears and it works good for me, but I live in a mountain valley and need the gearing for wheeling. If I lived in a flat area and didn't wheel much or have mountain passes to cross the 4.88s might be to low.

Well I live in Utah, so there are lots of mountain passes, so I thought 4.56's would be ideal. I plan on eventually going with 33's, but not until my tires wear out, which will be quite some time considering they are brand new. But regearing would be easier with the axles out of the jeep, that's why I'm asking what you guys what you think before I do anything. If 3.55's would be all right, money might be better spent on other stuff. I dunno...
