Default Going from 31's to 33's?

Is the switch from 31" tires to 33" tires really gonna make a big difference power and fuel mileage wise?

I have 31's now and its not too bad with stock gears.

What do you guys think?

Also if I was to re-gear with 33's, what is the ideal ratio to go with to be close to stock?

I'm running 33's, and I'm all stock at the moment aside from a K&N air intake. You shouldn't notice much difference, in my opinion.

Depending on you lift height, you may have to do some body/fender trimming as well, but who cares, 33's look awesome!!!

Most people go with 4.10's.

We run 33" tires and are still with our stock gears/axles. Drive it on interstate to work every day, and it does fine off road as well. Of course I wish it was lower geared at times off road, but it's all good.

Clearance and traction is what comes to mind.

Slower and more gas come to mind. I'm looking for a comparison with some useful information.

Are you kidding me? I went from 235/75/15 to 31x10.5 and the thing is a dog on any kind of incline or when "trying" to use cruise control. on my old Cherokee I was running 33 then went to 35 on axles geared to 4.56 and the thing did great, which is where I will be on this current cherokee once funds allow me to.

33s are great on an XJ, even with stock gearing. You will however need to learn how to drive offroad again, because it will most likely feel like a new rig. I have an AX15 and 3.07s with 33s and am extremely impressed with what I can tackle. Like most I do plan for regearing in the future. DO IT!!!!

33's on stock - you will see loss of power at highway speeds... gas wise takes more to get from point a to b so ease on the pedal. Currently doing a 3.55 to 4.56 gear swap - will let you know the difference when I see one.

I run 33 (285/75/16, basically a skinny 33) with an auto... I run stock gears (3.55) and put the gear selector in 3 (1:1) on the highway instead of D (0.75:1)... it really helps out with passing power, RPMs and MPG... 33s are doable with stock gears on a auto... I would think it might be a problem if you had a manual as it's top gear is 1:1 and differential ration is NORMALLY 3.05...

but you could run a lower gear on the highway and try it out
