GM alternator
Hey all,
I have a 1992 cherokee sport 4.0. My alternator is going out. I have a cs130 GM alternator that I have mounted in the place of my locked up ac compressor and want to hook it up. The GM units are much more readily available in my local pick n pull. I have searched and cannot find anything about a swap like this.
On the jeep wiring harness there is a solid green wire and a green wire with a red/orange stripe. Which one of these two are the "tickle" wire that "turns on" the alternator? What do these two wires go to? Which one goes to the amp gauge in the instrument cluster?
Thanks for any help.
Tom

Our Renix alternators are AC Delco units. So putting another Chevy unit isn't that hard. The green wire goes to the ECU and the green/orange wire goes to the shutdown relay.

I had to "clearance" the hood a little with a BFH.
I removed the locked up a/c compressor and made/ bolted a 1/4" steel plate in place of it.
I made the mounting point on the plate and adjuster out of 1" angle and welded it to the plate.
I have not removed the old alternator yet, but it is not hooked up anymore. I intend on removing it and the mechanical fan pulley and running a shorter surpentine belt. I guess I need to set the date on my old camera.
