Op has a free engine...ok. but a 3.8 is well, less than 4.0.

I know it's a free engine, I'm surprised nobody has brought that up though.
The 4.3 has the power of a 6 cylinder and the gas mileage of a v8.With it using small block motor mounts most swap in v8s in s10s just to get the v8 power.

I’m well aware of what they’re in and not in. Everyone kept saying it’s a FWD engine no one mentioned the fact it wasn’t always FWD. I’m not sure why or how this ancient thread got relived but this would be a really strange swap.

Default I was thankful to find this conversation

I came out to California a week ago to pick-up my 1990 Cherokee Limited with 4.0 L6. While I was here some drunk driver hit my 1997 Buick Regal GS with the factory supercharged v6 3.8l. Because he hit it from the rear the engine is fine, but the back end damage was enough to total it. Insurance doesn't pay much, so trying recoup my time and money in it is tough. The driver of the car had stolen it from a inmate in the jail who had no insurance, no job, no real property or any way to recoup any loss short term...
so the thought of a supercharged v6 in my 242000 mile jeep cherokee is kinda appealing
