Default Gear oil change question

Can I use carburetor cleaner to clean the inside of the carrier instead of brake cleaner I broke the cover off and drained and realize I don't have brake cleaner

Yes. Might not work as well but it'll work. Me I just wipeout with a rag. The new oil should get the rest.

Unless you have to remove the old oil with a putty knife, I wouldn't be concerned with new oil causing bearing issues. fact is if the bearing are going to be an issue, it doesn't matter how you clean it out. In that case the bearing were bad anyway.

I was just switching to 85-140 cause this loud ... spartan locker the old oil is only 2 months old.just didn't know what the carb cleaner would hurt...I just wiped it out with some rags..

My 1996 owners manual recommends synthetic. Didn't know it was made back then..

I don't think so..lucus heavy duty high performance 85-140.it really quitens down a loud locker
