Default Full 2.5" exhaust, why not? :)

Few more feet to get to the header then the hard parts out of the way. Ive done a few jeep exhaust but this will be the first going all the way. Pipe is 2.5\" hoping to put muffler where its pictured. Just roughing in bends so i hve something to work with ounce im laying under the jeep. More to come.

What year Cherokee...if pre 2000 then you are obviously not running a cat...doesn't bother me...that muffler is pretty far towards the front...it might get really hot up there...is that good? Don't know just throwing it out there Long time ago I think I ran a 2.5 from the exhaust manifold back...at least that's what I asked them to make...it was on my 92... The flare on a 2.5 pipe is pretty big...had a hard time getting a cone gasket that would completely fill up the 2.5 flare yet fit snugly on the manifold pipe...it always seemed to work loose right there and leak...Is that welded flex pipe in your bends? Nice job..don't know how well that will last

No not flex pipe. Pie cut 2.5" to make bends.
I pulled the jeep in and decided not to do the down pipe. I have the muffler mounted on the crossmember 4bolt flange. It's not my jeep so I decided I'd save the down pipe project for mine later.
I didnt get any pics have pipe routed over the axle and left at the tank need to drop it 6 8" make a hard bend and run outside the fuel tank to exit.
that's where she sits.
Exhaust will be removed welded then reinstalled. Ended up working yesterday and at work today hoping to get the jeep exhaust done and on the rd in the next evening or so.

More photos to come. Hoping for a slightly aggressive not to loud exhaust tone.

When I do the down pipe I'll use factory cone and mate 2.5" pipe to it. Quick and easy to reduce 2.5" some to fit snug enough for good welds.

I run minumum clamps as possible. All welds if I cant.
I may put a clamp over the axle fr ease of removal and install. Then small racks to keep it from ever turning. But stocks in a place they can easily be ground off for later projects if the exhaust needs removed to get out of the way

Well its to loud. Might put a flopro twister on it. I haven't told the owner yet. It does run better but is to loud.

When I did my exhaust I went 2.5" from the header back using a Magnaflow cat and a Flowmaster 50 muffler. Had a local exhaust shop do it. They made up a new down pipe to replace the dented one.

IMO, going to 2.5" gives a great tone BUT I felt it had a negative impact on low end torque (paired with a cowl intake and 62 mm throttle body). This is purely from a butt-dyno perspective. I have no numbers to back up this claim.

When the system was brand new I felt as if the Flowmaster 50 was too quiet. After running it for a few years I feel as if its too loud. I'd likely go with Walker Quiet Flow next time.

You do lose low end torque with bigger exhaust piping on this engine. When you increase the size of exhaust tubing, you change the velocity of the gas leaving the cylinder head. Jeep engineers tested out the ideal diameter of exhaust piping for a good balance of horsepower and torque based on the engine setup. With the stock setup, exhaust scavenging occurs. Scavenging in this case is a good thing.

When you go with bigger exhaust piping, you are shifting the power band up. The only problem is this engine makes its power low in the rpm range. If this is a racing Jeep, it would be a good thing. I believe most Jeep's are a combination of a daily driver and occasional offroad traveler. For a dd with some offroad, I'd stick to the original diameter tubing.

Seat dyno doesnt seem to have noticed a decrease in power.

This jeep runs the freeway alot so may actually see a increase in mpg and power.

I dont tend to run my jeep much over 2000rpm but have noticed theres do.

I have not loked at the peak power rpm # probably around 2700.

I have not seen power per pipe size spec's and will assume Chrysler went with what the did for sound reduction and emissions over peak power. May actually have seen peak power increased and lower in rpm with slightly larger pipe or even louder muffler minus the cat.

Would be cool to see actual dyn runsbut were unlikely.

Yes scavenging changes with each exhaust mod. Pipe size, muffer size , type, material thickness and sound waves.

Will ser if mpg goes up pr down n this jeep its bone stock used as a daily running the freeway.

I'm debating putting a flo pro twister in it or 50 serious to reduce noise.
Well see.

Ohhh I hve 3" on mine dumped ahead of the axle out of a 40 series muffler into a second resonator then t the ground. Muffler and pipes what I had at the time. Didnt hinder anything compared t the stock exhaust with holes the size f my fist rusting through it.

I'll get a vid.
its louder than I wanted. I've orderd a fte twister muffler to hopefully take it down. Its louder than my jeep with 3" pipe and 2 chamber flo pro. I think 2 chamber.

This jeep also has exhaust leak.cracked header I assume drives me crazy

Sounds good at idle. Wonder if it'll have a drone at speed...

It does have alittle drone that's why the twister muffler is coming.

From experience on my cummins it should kill drone and knock sound down alot

That is the way I made my Exhaust, since no one makes one for the engine I have.

I forgot about this thread. I remember this muffler sounds horrible Definitely has the ricer appeal

Ive helped install a few exhaust kits. They seem nice untill they dont fit very well . Fabbing from scrach opens up new ideas and sometimes better routing than bought stuff. But sometimes not.

its off topic but ill share anyways shoe horned a winch on this existing bumper. Turned out pretty good. This wj is put together in my vision.

I like winches high and tight so they make pos 4.7s over heat

I did the exhaust on it. Should jave got a pic. Snaked through iron rocl rear crossmember.

I have used a SpinTech muffler on both the 4.3L and a 2.5L Subaru. Tough muffler and makes any engine sound bad ***
