Not a dumb question. Yes that is the joint you need older joints used a different joint. Since its a 99 you also have two choices when it comes to unit bearing which sucks. It's kinda trial and error to see which one you have in my experience.

Rent a ball joint press. It makes taking the u joint out easier.

There's actually threads on the whole hub thing. They change styles at some point where the design shape and bolts were different size.

You will need a 36 mm socket for that nut.

I think I'm going to call parts stores tomorrow and see if they have u joints. Should I definitely get spicer or are there other acceptable brands? I just want this vibration gone. I honestly think it's getting worse.

Order the Spicer 5-760X. Those are the upgraded beefier ones, if yours didn't have them already.

Could you explain the threaded part a little more. In 99 one hub is a few millimeter shorter than the other causing brakes to bind if you use the wrong one. That is the only difference.

Let me see if I can find the picture. Some guy had a thread where a.place I stalled the wrong one and it MAY have cause his tire to fly off. Was kinda recent, last monthish

Ok my phone is being a bit dickish, not letting me post pics. Go to google and type in "Jeep XJ hub differences." Go to the images tab. There's several side by sides that show the different design and it wasn't just the bolt threads being slightly shorter.

Nope you should get the spicers that we've mentioned. They're sealed, and you really only want sealed for the axle. It would be kind of a pain to have to take everything off just to grease a u-joint.

You can grease the joint by turning the wheel. No need to disassemble.

Where can I get spicers from because I would really like to get this done ASAP and both brands I mentioned had a sealed option and a greaseable option if that was the main reason to get the spicers.

Nope. Get spicers because you getting quality. Get spicers and you're done with it for a while. Those other brands can be hit or miss. And those in particular I have no idea about.
