Front Dana 30 Upgrade Questions
Ok, so I'm getting my upgrade list together and planning on ordering goodies shortly. One question concerning my front axle is, what is the differance between these two packages? (obviously) it's the splines, but why does one have a 30/27 and the other have a 30/30?
It’s going into my 2001 XJ… Any help would be appreciated!

inner and outter spline counts I believe
30/30 would be stronger and thats why it costs more
I dont see you having any problem holding 35's with the 30/27 but it's up to you.
holy hell thats a lot of money to put in a 30

Both kits have 30 spline inner axles, so both have to have the 30 spline ARB and bearings. The only real difference between the two is that the 30/30 kit has 30 spline outer axle shafts and the required 30 spline hub bearings.
I'm running a 30/27 spline kit because I'm hoping that the outer axle will break before the ring and pinion give it up, for a cheaper and faster repair.

Thats my opinion also. Having a 2001, if you have not made the swap you have a low pinion d30. I am in the same boat and am not upgrading my front axle until I swap it for a high pinion d30. They are stronger and have more clearance. To each their own but for the price of this upgrade another 200$ for a junkyard hp30 is well worth it.

AlloyUSA grande kits are al 30 spline inner and 30 spline outer. They do not offer a 30/27 combo with an ARB.

Thanks for the help. I really don't want to do axle swaps, I orignially planned on swapping out my D-35 (rear) to a Crystler 8.25 or a Ford 8.8, and I do have a high pinion D-30 available, but having to deal with the anti lock brakes (my 01 has Anti-lock brakes, & my swap in axles don't) and other issues I can't see doing all the work and additional costs... I figured upgrading the front D-30 & just throwing in some better axles in the rear along with an aussi locker would do fine for me. I am running 33" 10.5 BFG's and have 6+/-" of lift on her now. First step is the SYE & drive shaft (will be done shortly). My truck is not a DD, but it is a reliable weekend runner. I wanted to keep it that way as much as possible. I don't do hardcore crawling, just some weekend off roadin'.
If upgrading my axles on my rig isn't good or worth the money, I'll probably just stick with what I have.
All your input is really good, (this is my 3rd Jeep that I have lifted & wheeled, so I'm too much of a noob). But this one I'm attempting to do most things if not all correct this time. Any more input would be really apprecaited.
Thanks
