Quote: The 8.8" is common and easier to find in rear disc, but it is a C-clip axle - which can be an issue off-road (if you drop a C-clip, you'll have a shaft and wheel depart the vehicle. This can be a problem. Also - and a good deal less common - you can "pop the button" off of the inner end of the shaft, which will have the same result.
Obviously youve never wheeled with an 8.8 although you want to make yourself sound like it

the disc brakes will keep the axle from popping out if you break a c clip axle. and if the clip pops out your junk isnt put together right. i drove out of aftershock at the hammers and about 4 miles back to camp with a broken c clip axle and it never fell out because the rotor is between the caliper which is bolted to the axle thus holding it in.

BUT there is a reason im looking for a 9 inch, just go with a 9 inch in the beginning. all the axles are close to the same to build they all cost a lot.
I have an 8.8 ill sell ya lol

To find a "native disc" 9" rear, look in Lincoln Continental and Mark series, about 1980-1986.

80s town cars and continentals had neither 9" diffs or disc, they were all 8.8s with drum
