Hello all,

I got this idea in my head of having the FM radio antenna on the roof of my XJ. I thought maybe I could connect some kind of cable to the FM radio OEM threaded connector, and run it along the roof to a magnetic antenna mount near the rear liftgate.

Anyone have any idea what kind of cable I could use for this, or where to find some kind of adapter for the XJ OEM antenna mount to make some kind of cable work?

Rocky, shouldn't that be "Or this?" The threaded end isn't needed if the 2nd one has the "FM Antenna" plug...

You can get male-to-female extension cables form the "FM Antenna" plug.

Yeah probably hahaha...
I didnt pay a lot of attention to the connections actually...
I just found some cable and an antenna..... connections are always an after thought to me because I have worked with, repaired, replaced, spliced, etc..... all kind of wire and cable over the last 25 years since I got an adult job. Airplanes and auto, regular electrical wire, high voltage stuff, coax, tri-ax, fiber...... I just make it connect and work haha.

Mounted on the roof, it will be difficult to make it retractable, and that means when wheeling with low hanging branches, you can catch the aerial on a branch. I like my motorized retractable aerial for this reason, and it is located on the fender as stock. I see no advantage to placing it on the roof, but do see a down side. Even if removable, it will require stopping, and getting out of the truck to remove it, be it magnet mount or threaded or what ever.

What advantage do you foresee with the roof top installation?
