Default Flowmasters question

I'm having a hard debate for my 94 cherokee xj I6 4.0.

Should I go with the Dela 40 muffler or super 44? From what I hear from sound tests it seems the delta is deeper... Which I like. But, on the other side, in the description from flowmasters it states the super 44 is deeper and louder.

I would like a deeper, more clear sound. Not a pissed off bumble bee. But a good quality muffler.

Headers and cat are all stock.

I've heard from many people the 40 is louder than the 44. Not sure the difference between regular, delta and super though. I have a super 40 under mine and it sounds great, deep and not annoying. I have a high-flow cat as well, though.

I'd be careful talking about removed cat, its not a favorable "mod" to perform here since its technically against the law in most every state.

I would never remove my cat. I would swap with a high flow but wouldn't remove. Not only is it illegal, the lack of back pressure isn't very good.

That's what I'm doing, high flow cat from performance-curve only cost me like 48 with shipping, now I just gotta pick a muffler.

And from what I've seen/heard the delta flow has a deeper tone on the xjs more like the old school sound.

I was thinking about changing out the muffler on my xj but am still unsure whether I want to go with a high flow cat & muffler combo or if I am going to go with a cat-back exhaust set up.

40 is louder then then the 44,but the 44 is much deeper and cleaner. I have had both of them on my silverados .

I agree that the 40 is not a "clean" sound at all lol. Check out sound clips on Youtube before you make your decision. The inline 6 is going to be specific vs. a V-8 or V-6 so make sure they are actual Cherokee clips.

Would you lose gas milage or power if you cut off the cat then put a flowmaster super 44 on?

The 44 is also made from 14 gauge diamond plate and can take a bit of a beating from rocks. It doesn't sound all that great unless you've done a full intake, headers and exhaust upgrade though.

And good lord, quit talking about removing cats...it's a federal crime and makes the whole community look bad when you get caught. We have enough troubles keeping public lands open as it is.

A four stroke engine does not require any backpressure. Any backpressure lessens performance.

I have a 44 on my Cherokee with 2.5" piping from a brand new STOCK cat back and it sounds real good. But I also have the Spectre Cowl intake as well... that makes it sound dirty!
