Flowmaster super 10 isnt as loud as id like
i have all stock piping on my 1990 xj besides the flowmaster super 10. there is a 2.5" pipe connecting the super 10 to the cat, then from the super 10 is 2.25" piping going to the rear. when i get above 3k rmp is sounds completely stock. and even from idle to 3k rmp its not as loud as i would like it to be. Im wondering what i can do to make it sound louder? do i replace all the piping with 3" piping or what?

Jesus how loud do you want it haha. If you're going to straight pipe it after the cat I would keep it with a 2.25" tailpipe. 2.5" would be louder but the smaller pipe will flow faster.
Edit: and also not street legal

its not loud at all. its literally as quiet as stock when its not a idle. i ran it straight piped and it was perfect but lost power. with the super 10 there is a noticable power differace so i want to keep it but i want it to be louder.

I've ran a super 44 dumped with no turn down or tail pipe. I'm in love with the sound but my girlfriend isn't and my hearing is only getting worse. I ran it at one point with a stock tail pipe and you're right, it sounds completely stock unless you shove your ear hole right into the tail pipe. You could always try a side exit but that sucks for wheeling. My opinion is that a turn down makes it louder because then everything gets bounced off the road. For me I'm going to try a 2.5 tail pipe to see if that helps without taking too much sound or quality away. After 6 years of running straight piped or close to it, it's time for a change.

I have a 40 series on mine and it's definitely louder than stock. Mostly has the flowmaster sound but gets a hum around 2000 rpms. Sounds like a v8 at idle. Had a borla on my d zj and that was significantly louder than stock but a completely different sound than the flowmaster. A 3 inch exhaust is too big and you will lose a lot of low end. Just like without a muffler there's not enough back pressure. There is an all exhaust thread in case you missed that. A good glass pack is the way to go if you want it too be the loudest possible and still have a muffler. Just make sure not to buy a dirt cheap one. From past experience those things somehow aren't very loud.

Loud exhaust systems tend to attract attention from folks that you don't want to attract attention from. Loud don't mean fast.

Loud means less back pressure and less torque in most cases which translates to even slower in acceleration unless you have intake fuel and timing to take advantage of the higher flow.
