Default finally got a DD in my 350 xj -- pic inside

took a while -- had the radio hooked up for a while, had Denise at DDmods dot com do the bezel for me ... got rid of the vent on the bottom, moved the HVAC control down, and had to take the entire dash out to get to the defrost vents to modify them ... but finally got everything jammed in (and of course, as soon as I get everything back together, I see oil leaking on the carpet -- must have moved the oil pressure gauge too much, it leaked .. so.. off to pep boys again!!)
anyway.. let me know what you think:

I've seen his work before. What did he charge you?

Looks real nice, like that a lot.

He gave me a very, very good rate, I think mostly because it was the first xj bezel he worked on, so I was a test subject. if anyone else wants one, I can't gurantee he'll charge the same. Also, the bezel was simple black, no wood grain or anything.

PM me if you want to know the price.

did he attach the mounting brackets to the bezel itself, or did you have to monkey with the fitment to get it lined up?

Zero modification to how the bezel mounts...stock friction tabs and screws.

the head unit almost fit in stock holes, but not quite .. but it was close enough that I was able to modify the mounting brackets to get it to fit.
Obviously the hvac controls had to be fitted .
With all the other work though, that really wasn't a big deal at all, took maybe 30 minutes of fiddling to get everything in the right spot.

i meant the mounting brackets for the radio itself.. I do this stuff for a living, and it's easier for me to make the deck fit in the dash and then make the modifications to the bezel. if I don't have the car right there, I usually epoxy the radio brackets to the bezel itself. that way the end user just has to make the appropriate room behind the dash, and not have to mess with trying to make it all line up.

was just curious how he did it

I get it.
I mounted the radio in the dash myself first, then measured from the top of the radio to the top of where the old bezel was. That's really all he needed to know (assuming I had the radio mounted in the center of the opening ... which was probably giving me more credit than I deserved). Also send him several pics with the radio mounted, with tailor's tape around the opening with the top/bottom/left/right of the unit marked off. I don't think he really needed this though.

here's another pic... while I had the dash out, figured I'd replace all the lights with blue lEDs. .. because well, doesn't everyone like LEDs?

Looks awesome! Best looking XJ interior I have seen yet, and I'm not usually a fan of the pre97 dash
