Exclamation fender trimming rust?

I trimmed my fenders up and then it decides to rain for 3 days straight in AZ...God hates me. On the passenger side I have weather stripping over the cuts, but no paint. On the driverīs side, I spray painted over the cuts but ran out of weather stripping. Is there anything else I should no besides put more paint? I really do not want rust to form quickly.

My only suggestion would be to paint inside the entire fender opening if you can. When I trimmed mine, it exposed a lot of metal that was painting very lightly from the factory and then covered up with plastic. When I removed the plastic, the metal was nearly bare and exposed to the elements. I give it all a solid paint job every few years to prevent anything.
