That is a great buy! I have a 8.25 and upgraded to alloy shafts to run 35s and I'm happy with it, but my shafts cost more than your $90 D/44, around here a xj D/44 would cost at least $400 probably more.

I don't feel bad about spending that much on my 8.8. It's been great, locked on 35's, never had 1 problem.

yeah about $1200 isnt that bad for an 8.8 build...of course got the explorer 31 spline with discs and LSD...for $100...got the gears, the brakes and their hook up, the complete rebuild, the welding of HD brackets on very precisely (using some kind of scanning machine), AND installation and labor done for that price (because just like dpace7xj, im not cool enough to do it myself)...not bad, and i give er hell with those 35's, not a bad day yet, even with the cute little LSD its got

Thought i was alone in this world with the only good 8.8! Glad to hear it, and to everyone else, i checked back on receipts just to see what i really spent and it was under 1000, i had forgotten that i bought new wheels, and other fancy stuff. But yeah, the whole project i spent almost 2000, but not just on the 8.8. Thank goodness for tax returns...

i paid $75 for my 8.8

parts are everywhere, and very cheap.

i wheel mine locked on 35's, im not even close to concerned with it breaking. and i know of enough people running 8.8's on heavier rigs with more power.

haha i know right? my buddies wonder where i got the money, because they both worked with me all summer, but it's because i stayed single all summer, unlike them hahah jeep>women...however, i spent a total of $4000; $1400 for that 8.8, $1400 for the complete rebuild, regear, and locker in my D30, and the last $1000 was a show deal in Carlisle, PA I got on 4 Procomp Xterrains (35x12.5-15) WITH a lifetime warranty on all of them haha

you will find it very hard to find to many people breaking 8.8's in XJ's.

id love to see all these broken 8.8's that jmax claims. because hearsay is hearsay, pictures tell alot of truth

I have seen them break they aren't invincable stock 31 spline shafts a locker and 35s break when you use the skinny pedal to make up for vehicle/driver ability.

the 8.8 vs ?? debate happens alot on many of the major forums, like pirate and jeepforum. and it normally always ends in the favor of the 8.8

it just gets old hearing people talk down the 8.8. even with c-clip it is a very stout axle and a very nice upgrade for any XJ.
