So i currently have a Chrysler 8.25 under the rear of my xj with a tom woods custom drive shaft. iv been toying with the idea of throwing a 8.8 under the jeep for added strength and disc brakes. now don't get me wrong Im a fan of the 8.25. Their a stout axle! But i have the opportunity to get an 8.8 fairly cheap but Im wondering if my driveshaft will still be the right length for the.8.8. I'm really not wanting to dish out the money for another driveshaft if i don't have to.

if the 8.8 has 4.10's and a limited slip in it, it might be worth it. but the diff clearance is actually pretty low I hung it a lot on 33's. the 8.8 is larger so if anything your driveshaft will need to be shorter. so if you have 1 or 2" of extra slip to spare you should be alright. but honestly buying a tom woods for a stockish jeep was your first mistake

O its not stock! 4.5 rc lift. Extreme short shaft sye. (reason why i got the tom woods shaft) braided steel lines, poly urethane bushings all the way around. Custom exhaust. And loads of other mods. Its my toy! Lol.

By stockish I think he was referring to the stock axles and such. When I first did my SYE I used a front shaft and it lasted 3 rides and the tube twisted in half. I run a shortened Tom Woods myself. It was actually cheaper than having a custom one built locally.
