Exhaust with no cat help?

Exhaust with no cat help?
Hi, I have 99 Cherokee classic with 187k on it and am gonna put on a glasspack my buddy gave me but I'm in the cat or no cat dilemma. If I run it with no cat and a glasspack is it safe/will it cause my cylinders to burn up?
