Default Engine Upgrades?

Are there any engine upgrades to get some more power out of the stock 4.0? I guess that's kind of a stupid question, but what are the options?

I'm already getting a new muffler, and rusty's intake/throttle body spacer. What else could I do that doesn't cost too too much?

I tried searching, but didn't find anything so I started a new thread, plus i thought some people could use the info besides me anyway.

Stickers are always a must. I would also say look into a good intake with a good exhaust. If you want faster then don't lift it

Stickers are good.... But comin from a drag racing background, there is no replacement for displacement. Stroke it! Did mine about 7+ years ago. Stock 3.55s and 33 it had no problems going sideways whenever you want it to! I have the comp cam, 242-xx... Whatever the extreme energy 4x4 option was. At least for fuel injection. Pay the extra to get it balanced. Best bang for the buck in my opinion.

Save money and don't buy the throttle body spacer. They do not produce any performance results on the MPFI style engine. Unless of course you do some deep water crossings and want that extra inch of height before the intake manifold. And rather, with this money you saved, you could replace the injectors. Restores throttle response, fuel efficiency, and power. Just a suggestion.

Also check your throttle cable for slack. I think a lot of us are forgetting to mention this. When I bought mine the cable was stretched almost an inch!!! I got some rigid tubing and cut it down the middle and put it over the excess cable on the pedal. You'd be surprised how much is lost with just a stretched throttle cable.

We've already messed with the throttle cable, so I know that's all good. Thanks for the info on the throttle body spacer. I would like to get new injectors, but which ones are a good boost in performance?

Zoid, how much did all of that cost? i ask because that does seem like something I would do in the future. could i get a new cam with the stock engine and what would be the improvement on that?

I didn't notice any "performance" out of the injectors, just a smoother idle and power band but not added "get up and go"

You can add a cam to the stock engine, and you will get a gain from it, However, a cam Is somthing that you will only see the true gains of if you add intake, exh, throttle body, port and polish head, ect. Not saying its not worth doing because it is. however there are a lot of ways a cam can be "held back" from its true potential. I would recommend doing the "supporting" mods first, and then do the cam if you want more.

Well with a cam. I could get a cam, then do the other stuff as i go. I have a muffler on the way, I'll be getting rusty's intake thing with k&n air filter. throttle body sounds like a good idea. how much do they run about?

I'm currently running an AEM brute force short ram intake(upgrading to cowl soon), 63mm bored throttle body, 99+ intake manifold, 703 injectors, APN header, 2.5" catback with a flowmaster super 44. Definitely a big improvement over stock.
