Default Engine swap questions

So I have a 1985 Jeep Cherokee with the 2.8 L V6 in it right now I am thinking about putting the 3.4 V6 in it from a 1994 Camaro, my question is since it is a direct replacement for the 2.8 V6 in a way would it work with my four-wheel drive system, it's the stock system from the factory, I just need to know if my four-wheel drive would still work with the 3.4 V6 in there, another thing I know I will have to install a standalone fuel injection system would a in tank pump be better or an Edelbrock inline pump? Thanks

Are you leaving the fuel injection on the motor and add in the computer ? I don't think the stock 4x4 system needs a computer to work . so it should work just like it does now .

Yes I would just be adding the computer, and the current four-wheel drive setup runs off of vacuum and electronically shifts over, but my question is would it work with a motor that I'm not so sure has a port for the vacuum line it needs

I believe the 4x4 system is a stand loan system and for a fuel pump you should be able to go up a few years like maybe a 1989 4.0L . .

The 4WD system is lever operated with a vacuum servo used to engage the passenger side axle.
No electronics except that dash light.

It's best to bypass that kludgy vacuum stuff anyway. Takes 15 minutes. I can provide a link if you are interested.

I am super interested on bypassing the vacuum for my four-wheel drive system if I can get the link that would be great, I understand that people put the 3.8 Buick v6s in the 85s with the 2.8 as well but I do not feel like completely and entirely overhauling my Jeep for 4 extra milliliters lol

The big issue is that the CAD system only fails when you need it the most.

Kinda like when you don't realize your wiper blades need replacing until it rains....

I know somebody’s system works and he advocates keeping it stock, but my exposure to the failures is probably hundreds of times greater than his, as a result of being Service Manager at a Jeep dealership from 1980 through 1992, and being a current XJ and MJ owner.

CAD stinks. Every Jeep I work on with it, I eliminate it. Guess what I find in the process? 25 year old busted vacuum lines, bloated vacuum line connectors, bad vacuum reservoirs and piping, bad transfer case vacuum switches. In other words, had the person gotten into a sticky situation and needed 4WD, they would have been screwed!!!

That's the tip of the iceberg. The factory went through 3 revisions of the shift fork also. The fork issue is non-existent if you just slide it over and leave it.

See the link below for complete instructions. Takes less than 1/2 hour.
