Hey guys, so i am seriously considering a diesel swap on my 01 cherokee. Dont have any experience with swaps but i have been doing a lot of research on this forum among many others as well. I have been able to locate several om617 turbo diesel engines from my local JY. My questions are basically what all do i need for the swap? From my research this is what i have come up with so far.

-OM617 engine

-AW4 adapter plate for engine

-new motor mounts

What else will need to be done? Im just trying to wrap my head around this swap any tips, advice, or information would be greatly appreciated! Please rid me of my ignorance! Thanks!

Great engine with good power and those last forever

have not done this swap, but in the past I did a swap on another platform from gasoline to diesel

From the top of my head I think you will need:

the diesel engine (obviously)
adapter to tranny
most likely custom engine mounts
for the AW4 to work correctly I think you will need to fit a TPS somehow, and the tranny kick down cable (not sure but I think the TCM needs to know what are your foot intentions) and the cable as well needs to be present.
From the donor you will need to pull the complete engine, diesel filter, and if found the electrical big contact for the diesel pre-heat system

You will need to modify your fuel tank, remove the fuel pump and replace with a hose or tubing that will get to the botton of the tank as the diesel fuel pump on the engine will pull the diesel directly from the tank.

Electrically the early diesel engines need about three wires to start and run, ground strap, pre-heat 12V using a big contact relay, and 12v to the solenoid in the fuel pump to allow diesel to flow to the injectors.

Install the XJ temp and oil senders on the new engine and I think this covers it, a few custom things will need to be fabbed, but nothing too hard to do if you are mechanical inclined and have some fabrication skills

Thanks for the info guys. Took a look at that website, wealth of info on there. This swap is a little more involved than i thought. I didnt take some things into consideration. This will still be an ongoing project for me though. I will keep y'all updated! Thanks again
