I have no clue on the buick engine, but you can swap in a chevy 3.4L.

You'll have a really hard time getting the 231 in there as it's not a 60* like the 2.8. For the minimal gains it's not worth all the work you'll end up doing just to get it in.
Also, I would stay away from the 3.4 v6. They had many problems no matter what year it was produced (intake, timing chain, spark plugs) and they are a pain to work on. Run the 2.8 'til it dies and then find a 4.0 XJ for cheap.

Actually the Buick 231 V-6 is a phenomenal motor and very worthy of swapping into a Jeep. I had one a Pontiac Ventura many years ago and it was surprisingly fast.
After market support has always been pretty good.

It'll fit, just got a take a hammer to a spot or two. I know a few people have actually said if you remove the front clip that it doesnt take a whole lot to fit it in.. But if i was going through all that work to make new motor mounts, i'd probably just throw in a 5.3...
