Can anybody tell me anything about the winches they use in the video?

Obviously engine driven but the speed seems to also be linked to the gear they are in.

And OLE poop, that's some serious mudding/winching.

I WANT ONE

PTO or Hydraulic as said before.

Could be a 10 000 or up to 20 tons. Who knows really.

A guy I know has an International 1ton 4 door pickup made for CN rail with a 20 TON winch on it. They were used for flipping over crashed rail cars.

This military wrecker of mine had a 20,000 lb PTO winch in front and a 45,000 lb PTO winch in the rear. The rotating crane part was PTO running hydraulics.

Wow, Thanks.. How could I have not seen that they use wrecker winches on their 4000lbs trucks and that one single guy can easily (relatively) pull the cable across 4 feet of swamp mud and can reel over 130fpm

Im surprised nobody has fitted them on Cherokees yet.
[end of sarcasm]

Obviously they are not electric winches. I Was hopping maybe someone had seen or had pictures of the setups used or similar than ON THE VIDEO, not turning this into a show and tell "mine is bigger than your friend's"

Geez Karl. A bit sensitive aren't we? I was showing that PTOs could be used as mechanical drives as well as hydraulic drives. If you took it any other way, I think you may be questioning your manhood. Sheez.

A simple Google search of PTO winches may serve you better. But beware. There may be some biguns out there.

And by the way, unless your trans has an opening to mount a PTO, which our Jeeps don't, it isn't gonna work. And, if your engine stalls and won't start, you're screwed with a PTO.
But, PTO winches are generally a bit more powerful than electric.

I thought about that, and got an idea. Not to sure how well it would work and I know it could cost a bit, but imagine a Hydraulic winch with engine driven pump (steering or other) but as a backup, an electrically driven hydraulic pump. Obviously would be a lot slower but its a backup after all. Hydraulically its easy to build and a good used steering pump mechanically linked to DC motor (look at electric wood splitter) (could even fit in a compact package behind bumper) using the same hydraulic system.
All of it could be built with factory auto part except for the hydraulic flow cross over valve and hardware of course.
as a bonus, more fluid, less chances of cooking the pump.

I have to say, I don't use my winch enough to spend the money but it would be very cool make a kit.

I like winch speed and power. my tractor has a 39gpm @ 2500psi pump that is about the size of my 2 fists together.

with half that flow, it could make WARRIOR KHD 10000 winch pull 10000lbs at 44fpm in low and 260fpm in high (only 1600lbs). Faster than almost any electric winch.

A fun project for later.
