Jeep Cherokee sport 2000 engine light flashing and at 3k on rev its like it hit the rev limiter. Checked systems out. Got error code

Evaporative emission system leak detected
(Major leak)


Replaced vacuum hoses at motor.

 

my P044 was a gas cap that had a bad seal. If the CEL is flashing, that sounds like a larger issue tho. Flashing light should mean do not drive the vehicle. solid light means cover up the CEL and keep on driving..haha

 

Flashing is a misfire related cause. I doubt the evap code has anything to do with it flashing.

 

it only does that on gasoline. so i ruled out the mis-fire from the situation. on CNG there is no problems. could it be an injector?

2000 and 2001 are very prone to heat soak, was it a hot day? A flashing cel means impending damage to engine and or catalytic converter. If its not flashing anymore it was probably a misfire

 

Only flashes on gasoline though. Cng it will run the whole way up the rev limiter.
