front coil spacers and rear lift blocks. Rear lift blocks (especially aluminum) are a bad idea because you will get axle wrap and eventually spit the blocks out, probably damaging at least the driveshaft and rear axle, maybe the t-case tailhousing too. For a cheap lift in the rear, add another leaf. I had a spare stock XJ pack, I used the main leaf with the eyes cut off and inserted it between the main and second leaf. You will also need longer center pins for the new pack. Search "bastard pack"...

Take off JK shocks work fine with a little work. Good for an extra 2-3".
JK shocks work well if you have a 2-3 in lift already installed as they are 2-3 inches longer than stock shocks and have a similar mounting pattern.

Budget boost was mentioned, shocks were not. You play it right, you can score coil spacers, shackles and JK shocks for under $100.

^ He has a good point but, that first post threw me off too. If you are looking for an inexpensive couple of inches: coil spacers, lift shackles and JK "take off" shocks would be a cheap and durable route to take. Much better than the block idea

lets see I have about $100 plus shock into my lift. Shocks are a maintenance item and need to be changed periodically anyway.
Front springs, $20 from f150 3.5" but very stiff. New spring are only $100. have set of 2" spacers also $25 not installed.
Rear S-10 blazer springs $50, used main and third for 3.5". Still have leaves avaiable to get to 4.5"
When I get a trackbar, SYE and sway bar extentions I'll lift to 4-5" with parts on hand.
Total for 3.5" including shocks $170.

My budget boost was very cheap. A friend went to get a steering box from a guy parting a XJ. I tripped over a coil spacer, I asked if he had the other and when he showed it I asked how much. He said $5. The shackles came from a guy from a local off road forum I'm on. He was upgrading his XJ, I paid $20. I work in a off road shop and scored almost new JK shocks for free, the customer didn't want his old parts.
I also have a nice set of rear leafs from another XJ lift I snagged those instead of tossing them in the scrap bin.

70's model ford f100/150 front springs and any 2.5 inch wide leaf will work as well. I lifted mine 3.5" for less than 40$ Mind you that didnt count cost of shocks, longer brake lines or the Lower CA's.
