I have a 1995 jeep cherokee in6 4 door 4wd I saw a review of this e85 kit https://eflexfuel.com/us/auto-products and apparently with this u can run e85 and regular it comes with is own sensors and wires and computer I'm just curious if I will damage my engine if I install this

I've not heard anyone running this on an XJ before. There's always a chance that engine damage can occur when your messing with fuel systems, even with stock things.

 

Moving to modified Cherokee tech instead of the stereo section as we call it.....

 

I've never seen someone do it.

What's the benefit?

 

Around here the benefit would be 1.26 cheaper gas....lol

 

But fewer miles to the gallon-a lot fewer miles.
Balances out in the end.

 

Does this conversion fall into the category of stepping over dollars to pick up pennies?

 

I run e85 in my 14 Caprice. Absolutely prefer it over premium fuel. They roughly 15% less fuel economy from my experience is pretty accurate. Doing the math on mpg on either fuel it was something like .10 more per gallon used on the e85 but it runs better in my opinion soo the smile per gallon is worth it for me.

I also ran e85 in my 2010 silverado for dd duties and towing, wouldn't recommend it for towing as it was a little more dramatic fuel loss over my car.

Applying that to one of these XJs I'd be curious how it performs but i dont think it would exactly be $$ viable to justify it

 

I could see running E85 for a forced-induction setup, but for NA what's the point?

 

It would have to be a pretty rowdy NA setup to warrant running a 100+ octane fuel like E85. High compression and high cylinder pressure like Pro Stock rowdy, which is far less resistant to detonation than the 8.8:1 Jeep compression.

When running ethanol, the engine can require up to 40% more fuel per combustion event. You won't see any savings at the pump even if the cost $1.26 less than 87 gasoline if the fuel is being consumed at twice the rate.

 

Now I'm curious... what's E85 priced at local to you guys -if you notice?

Speedway gas stations around me carry it @ .50 cheaper than regular fuel. J&H stations it's 1.00 cheaper than regular. Rather few and far between on any others. Meijer is a shout your answer out kinda pricing and they are typically the near most expensive station - gotta offset them gas price coupons I suppose

 

Meijer $3.49 regular, $2.96 E85. That’s the nearest station with E85, and it’s 20 minutes in the wrong direction for me. Other than that, a couple stations 45 minutes away, a few more an hour and a half away. Pretty slim pickings.

 

E85 out here is around $3 a gallon. 91 is around $5.

Still, for a Jeep, there is zero benefit to running it. I do an E30 mix in my Supra and did full E85 in my Evo since it was running 34psi of boost. Good benefits on a boosted vehicle, not so much on a low compression NA engine.
