a 98-99 dodge durango steering gear box will fit in a cherokee. it. Bigger than the cherokee's witch makes it easier to turn big tires. But the durango had a plow option. That won't work because it has a extra power steering line

I just did that swap but havent had time to test (due to the lack of power steering fluid.) i got the box out of a 99 from the jy for 50 bucks and it bolted right up with no fabrication.

For anybody who still cares... I tested out my durango box and it was great! It was so easy and smooth to turn. I could even turn it with two fingers when the wheels arent turning on 33s.(i know its not the best thing on the power steering, but it was just a test) I would recomend this mod to anyone who has a lift and bigger tires.

Proper installation requires an additional 1/4" spacer due to the diameter of the gear box.

really? as in 1/4" more frame side spacing? interesting, ive never seen that in any of the write ups. Im assuming you are saying that so the pitman arm is in the same location as before?

The spacer goes between the existing spacer (Aluminum) and the frame rail. It's needed because the diameter of the Durando box is larger than the stock box. Do a search on NAXJA for Durango, it's been covered over there many times.

What your saying makes absolutely no sense. I have no spacers in between the box and the frame, and it works perfectly, no movement, no binding, and perfect steering radius.

It makes perfect sense. The diameter of the body (the part that holds the piston) is larger than the stock gear box.
