A lot od tht stuff runs trough the cpu so I would expect to have issues., You could always buy a 97-01
You're absolutely right, I could get a 97+ model, however I personally don't like the newer interior and body lines. Also, I currently don't have a problem with my -96, I just want to have fun modding my project jeep 😁
I think something like this is what I'll run specifically for the oil pressure. I'll still have to figure out to do the equivalent for the temperature gauges. Anyone have any information on this switch? As well as the temperature switch?
First figure out the thread pitch for the oil pressure sensor.
Then you buy the appropriate Weatherhead brass fittings.
I found the specs for the thread pitch for my oil pressure sensor on the Napa site for my '00.
Then did that too.
But mine was just so I could run a mechanical tester and the cluster gauge at the same time.
I wanted to see what my real oil pressure was and how the two compared to each other.

I keep reading that it's plug and play, but according to a field service manual I have I'm also seeing that there is an actual oil pressure switch just for the idiot light. Jeep XJ's are kinda scare in my area, especially pre96. Does anyone have a part number for the Idiot light switch? If I'm able to just order it, I'll be able to get this part done pretty quick
So I've aquired an 1/8 inch NPT tee fitting and oil pressure switch for the light. I am one step closer to making this real.
This part is pretty straight forward; unscrew the current oil pressure sensor from the block, install the fitting, and then install both the oil pressure sensor and switch. From there, all I need to do is install the light into the gauge face, and run the wiring along with the other wires.

Don't forget the thread sealant on the Weatherhead fitting.
Engine: 4.3L with headers and full 3" exhaust system

I did the same thing for my 4.3L installation on the oil pressure. The water temp though I drilled and tapped the intake manifold twice, once for the analogue temp gauge and once for the fan switch
